Art, a young girl of 16, suddenly remembers, and sets of to follow in her mothers very footsteps. She becomes the ultimate.... Piratica! Follow your dreams, threatern but never kill. Amazing!!! I have read Piratica 1,2, and 3!!! Lee better write number 4!!!
Brilliant - so good I was up at three in the morning on the day before an exam reading it!! - This is absolutly one of those can t put it down books. I loved it. Borrowed it from my local library due to the fact i d run out of new books to read and as soon as I d started I didn t want to stop reading. This Swashbuckling tale tells the story of Armetisia, a pupil at a staunch girls bording school. During a deportment lesson she trips and bangs her head on the corner of the stairs. Then BANG she remembers the last six years of her life and what her mother did for a living! It s a tale of discovery, piracy and revenge. There are weird little qwerks, that I found made me love the book even more - Set in the year seventeen-twelvty, England had the revolution (not the French), and France and Spain are one country called Franco-Spain. This book definately deserves a 5 star rating. If you loved Pirates of the Caribean you ll love this more.
Good in a we - dont - kill - anyone - but - survive - everything - kinda way - Piratica is definately worth reading and i will buy the sequel but some things were not believeable like the fact that the girl Art thought she was at sea but for most of her life was on a stage. This put me off the book for a few months but i did manage to get back into it. On the plus side Tanith Lee (author of the book) has an amazing imagination and has presented Piratica really well. It is a great idea for a story and I will definatly check out some of his other books.
Great and Fun Read - Piratica is my favorite book, and I was incredibly excited when I found out last year that Tanith Lee was writing a sequel. Piratica: Return to Parrot Island was definately worth the wait. Tanith Lee spins an intriguing tale of a young ultra-heroine with dozens of twists and turns. Artemesia, much to Felix s dissatisfaction, takes up the king on his offer to sail under the British flag as a privateer. However, Artemesia, who has more in mind than plundering for her king, is chased by Little Goldie Girl, who is ripe for revenge. This book follows Artemesia through extraordinary adventures with both old and new crew members by her side. I really enjoyed Piratica II. I found it often hilarious and just as brilliantly written as the first. I hope Tanith Lee follows with a third.
Vivid, lush, filmic, funny - I got this book for my 9 year old daughter. She just couldn t get into it. On the other hand, I - and all of my friends on whom I ve forced it - have loved it. I read it on a plane and kept having to apologise to the person sitting next to me because I was laughing so much. Much of humour lies in the way that Lee plays with genre and absurdity. The language is gloriously rich, too - although I found that if you try to read it aloud, it lacks rhythm and loses some of its magic. The prose is wonderfully visual, and the overall effect is very filmic - partly because our images of pirates are so rooted in swashbuckling movies, and partly because Lee is consciously drawing on those images. I think it flags a little towards the end, and the mystery about Mr Phoenix turns out to be a little prosaic when All Is Revealed, but the ending is just as it should be.
